Lace frontals, Help! Why is there so much extra lace?

Lace front wigs are perfect for achieving a natural looking hairline, and can blend seamlessly with your scalp and skin tone! When you first receive your lace frontal wig, you will most probably have a strip of excess lace, but what is this for?

Lace front wigs usually come with a large lace strip that extends over the forehead, (if they haven't already been previously cut)

The reason for this is because it can initially help you to pull the unit on. But, the main reason is to give you the freedom to cut the lace to fit around your head shape and around your ears.

There are ears tabs on either side, and this is where you will need to cut the lace around the shape of your own ear. This will help the wig to lay flat when installing it later on. These ear tabs are the main reason why it's better to cut the lace yourself, in order to get the perfect fit!

Cutting the lace can seem daunting, but don't panic! I'd suggest cutting it slightly lower/ bigger than you want it to sit as it'll give you the opportunity to go back in and fine tune it. I think the smaller the scissor the better - nail scissors are a brilliant option for this, they'll give you more control, and enable you to do smaller and more precise cuts :)

If this all still seems too intimidating for you, Wigs at Kirstie can pre-cut the lace for you! But just know that by doing this, the lace may not trace your hairline and sit around the ears as perfectly as it could.

Keep a look out on our instagram page, @wigsbykirstie, as there's a demo of how to cut the lace coming soon!
